The lifeblood of most businesses is getting new customers to do business with. These potential customers are leads or prospects. But how does one define a good or qualified sales lead or prospect?

Good leads or prospects are more than a list of names - the phone book and yellow pages are full of names but these cannot be seen as leads, especially not qualified leads.

A qualified lead or prospect is someone:

  • who has a need for or interest in your product or service
  • who has the authority to make the decision to buy your product or service and
  • who is in a position to pay for your product or service
